Chairman’s Report – Year Ending 31st March 2018
The last 12 months have been a quiet period for the Trust.
Our main focus for the last four or five years has been working with South Lakeland District Council, Lancaster City Council and local parish councils and other organisations to compile the Local Plan for the AONB Area. Progress has been very slow, but encouragingly the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Development Plan Document (AONB DPD) has been approved by members of both South Lakeland District and Lancaster City councils. The examination process is expected to be completed by the end of June 2018 when the inspector will rule on the soundness of the plan.
The Trust is still, for the next year or so, in a relatively stable financial position. However there is always a need to look for new funding sources and we must all be vigilant in ensuring that the Trust remains financially viable in the coming years.
The Trust still needs to recruit one or two new trustees, ideally from the currently under-represented age or special interest groups. We would ideally like to recruit new members who at the very least are IT literate. People with legal skills and planning skills would also be very welcome.
The Trust’s focus over the next few months should I believe, concentrate on the following topics:-
1. Continue to work with all the local councils and the AONB management team in the delivery of the AONB DPD once the examination has been completed if the plan has been determined as sound.
2. Recruitment of one or maybe two new trustees.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trustees for everything that they have done over the last 12 months, especially Rachel Dutfield our treasurer and secretary.
